if some of us want to backtrack to the communications hub on the ice planet to, say, see if we can send a virus or some other program to the null's hivemind - have any suggestions on how to go about that? would it be possible at all?

Fear could totally get you there and back. It'd be pretty dangerous for all of you, since we don't know if there are Null on the world right now, but just getting there would be easy enough.
